The latest dirt from...

Dirty Hands Garden Center!

March / April 2008

Something opens our wings.
Something makes boredom and hurt disappear.
Someone fills the cup in front of us:
We taste only sacredness.

-- Rumi

It has been a while since we have sent out a new webletter. With so much going on in the world, it is easy to not accomplish the tasks we intend to. This year, Spring Equinox is March 21. The weather has not fully indicated this, though. The bulbs are popping up with their colorful petals, the nodes on the trees are swelling, and the bluebirds are looking for houses. However, it is a bit early to plant our favorite annuals. The possibility of a heavy frost remains. We are in a sort of "gardening purgatory".

This does not mean that there is no work to be done! We can gently pull the leaves from our beds, and start a compost heap (for more info on composting, click onto our home page). We can sharpen and clean our tools. We can begin a few seeds indoors, and plant our cole crops outdoors. We can cut back the violas and pansies we over-wintered. In a couple of weeks, they will flush out with lovely new growth.

Moss Path We still have time to be inspired, and consider new concepts in gardening. Moss gardening, for example, is a lovely, peaceful way to embrace a moist, shady area. Instead of fighting conditions not correct for grass lawns, allow your natives to flourish. Create a few new paths amongst your grounds. This will encourage you to not only look at your garden, but to BE in your garden; perhaps gain a new perspective. Add a little whimsy to your life, and always leave room in your garden for the fairies to dance!

Dirty Hands Garden Center has a full selection of gorgeous new annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, and herbs, pre-booked and ready to come in. New statuary, garden art, and accessories will arrive soon, as well. Save time, effort, and gas. We look forward to seeing you all again! Come See US!

In the meantime, Live Happy and Plant Well!

Folks, please remember to ALWAYS bring plant and bug samples in a plastic bag. It is very important that everyone be aware of the possibility of contaminating businesses, homeowner properties, and the Earth in general (think of it as a horticultural condom).
THANK YOU!
